It's Photo Booth Season!!! (Plus Country Music Wrap-up)

I am back at Autzen Stadium this year in support of Guaranty's photo boot. We have a new mannequin and will be getting an even newer mannequin soon. So far my favorite mannequin has to be the  one we used at Oregon State University last year. He just looked buffer, and most like a football player. Who would have thought that I would have a preference in mannequins? And how many times can I say mannequin in one post?

I will be with Eggie in the Moshofsky Center before every home game this year. Come by, give Eggie a high five, and make sure you get your picture taken with that day's game jersey. We will print you a copy on the spot. Go Ducks!

There's not much to say about Willamette Country Music Festival that hasn't already been said. I went and worked the photo booth, did my Eggie thing, installed signage and had a great time. I had an epic sick day. I think it was bad fish, a gas leak or something. It was awful.

Country Crossings Music Festival

I spent August 25 - 30th in Medford at the Country Crossings Music Festival (CXFest). It was super fun, really hot and a lot of hard work. I was doing so much dancing and walking that my shoes melted.

Guaranty arrived on the 25th to set out all of our signage. We setup our marketing materials and fine tuned the displays. I wasn't staying onsite at this festival. I was staying at a local hotel. I go to spend the bulk of my time off (what little there was) at a pool.

There is always a lot that goes into these festivals. I know I have written about this before, so click on the "Country Music" label above if you want to learn more. To the right is a picture of me wading through the crowd by the main stage.

Read more to get a general recap of what was done and I will post links to festival photos.

I Coulda Been a Contender - 3 Parodies of Well Known Movies

Every once in a while I get to cut loose, and have some fun doing something ridiculous. This was one of those opportunities. We shot most of this in one day to support the Jordan Kent Skills Camps. It was a lot of fun and I hope we do more parodies with Eggie moving forward.

I could see us recreating some really great movies in the near future.

Pear Blossom

by Jamie Bennett

Every year I head down to the Pear Blossom festival in Medford, Ore. This year was no different, but it was easily our best showing. I went down Friday afternoon and installed some incredible decals along a Roadtrek Versatile. This Roadtrek pulled Eggie dancing in a SylvanSport Go. I followed Mr. Peanut in his peanut mobile, and as such everyone already had their cameras out... ready!!!

Kickoff to Bad Sport Puns

by Jamie Bennett

Photo both season is underway. This means I get to spend a bunch of time photographing manikins. This year we are adding the University of Oregon to our regiment. We are still doing Oregon State University, and this year our pictures will appear on the Jumbotron at both stadiums. We get mobbed at Autzen Stadium. The traffic of people is heavy the entire time. I live close to Autzen, so I can skateboard in and out during game days, and this makes the whole thing so much easier on weekends..
Here is a link to the photos we took at the first game. People come and take photos with the manikins, we post the picture and we print them a copy.

Read on and you'll see some of Eggie's extended family.

Country Music Video Extravaganza

by Jamie Bennett

I am tired, so this will be short. I included my favorite videos from this weekend for filler. To the right is a number of sandwich boards I brought to the festival. The neon decal ones were in the Rising Star area, and the four color signs were at the display. I spent today cleaning our marketing trailer, and sorting the collateral materials. It was a great weekend. It was especially awesome to see people enjoying the hats, other promotional items, and it was great to get to know my colleagues better. I am exhausted, so there you have it.

Read on and you'll see video that Cappelli Miles made for the jumbotron (Eggie included), video of me dancing (in real life) and the most Amaerican clip of all time.

And I Still Went to Cape Blanco!

by Jamie Bennett

I broke my arm before the big show. After months of preparation, I fell and received a hairline fracture on the radial horn in my left arm, but I still went to the Cape Blanco Country Music Festival. We were a hit as usual, didn't miss a beat. Here is a photo of me wearing my heavy egg suit, featured on the festival's Facebook page. It was great. Eggie had more name recognition then ever. I didn't have a cast. I didn't need one, which stinks because I broke my arm. I deserved a sweet cast to paint on! I have never broken anything in my life to warrant a cast, and I feel a little sad that I missed out this time.

Read on and I'll give you some highlights from this weekend.

The Worst is Over... :)

by Jamie Bennett

So this is just a quick update about how our show season has been, and a run down of what is coming in the next couple months. The title of this blog post is in reference to nothing... lol... In advertising, the worst is never over, it's just lying dormant. It just felt good to say that the worst is over because, I have been working really hard the last several months.

To begin with, on the left you will see the artwork for this year's festival shirts. It will be printed on neon shirts, using bright neon inks. I can't wait to get my hands on one of these bad boys.

Second, the paper cutter is holding it's own and so if my new printer. Over the last month I have printed, cut and shipped over 80k direct mailers to promote our various shows around Oregon. This has arguably been our most successful show season to date.

Pear Awesome Parade

by Jamie Bennett

Every year, I participate in the Pear Blossom Parade in Medford, Ore. This year was no different, except that I was again walking the whole thing, and it was hot. Having been raised in the Nevada desert, it was no big thing. It was a two hour walk, but easy compared to what I went through last year. You can use the labels above to read about that experience.

Mourning Herb Nill, and I am an Art Director

by Jamie Bennett

How I came to be in Oregon is not interesting. I worked in Vegas, and the clients were notable. I learned a lot, but the Pacific Northwest is a much better arrangement for a person such as myself.

Six years ago I moved to Junction City, Ore. I did research before moving, and Guaranty looked like a dream company. The thing that I found most attractive was that I would be working in house for a family business that was forward thinking. I was impressed with the resources, and excited about the opportunity to make a mark on a company. Often as a marketer you are stuck in a rigid set of brand standards. Guaranty was wide open territory. Guaranty is a company that is bridging country overhead, and big city selection. We are online, growing, and we are nimble. Our CFO is also incredible, and I trust his judgement better than my own.

Herb believed in me. I don't know how much he knew of me, but I had several interactions with him. He treated me with love and respect. Herb was in the air force, and my own family was too. I often felt like I belonged at Guaranty, unlike I belonged anywhere else. It has been as if, I have trained my whole life to be here now. Herb raised amazing sons, and this whole company is his legacy.

Do read on. I will add a video.

Bi-Mart Country Music Festivals are a Wrap

by Jamie Bennett

So Bi-Mart Willamette Country Music Festival was wonderful this year. The acts were great. Our Rising Star area didn't have power for the most part, and my generator kept shutting down. It would be on for an hour, and then it would shut off for three or four hours. It kept overheating. It was rough, but at least the weather wasn't as hot as it was in years past. I had a great time. The signage was looking great. In the next section I will show you what out Rising Star area looked like (the area where our guests would gather for dinner, and to party after nightly concerts).

Cape Blanco Country Music Festival 2015

by Jamie Bennett

Cape Blanco, 2015 was probably the best time that I have had at one of these country music festivals. I  use to couch my appreciation of music with platitudes about how "I like just old country," and "how new country is too much like pop." I don't think I will do that anymore. I really had a great time at this festival, and will admit to rocking out (slightly). To the left is a photo of me with the marketing team. My wife and daughter are there too. I painted all the signs hanging there. This was our FREE, old-timey photo booth.

Llew (my daughter) met Amy Clawson after her show, and Amy was incredibly sweet to her (Llew was star struck). Llew was also boot scootin all weekend, high on sugar.  I got incredibly close to the main stage during the Florida Georgia Line performance. I also think someone from Florida Georgia Line put on the egg suit when I was backstage. I wasn't allowed to take pictures of/with them (completely understandable), but they put on one hell of a show.

One of 100 Movers and Shakers

by Jamie Bennett

I was picked to be one of 100 professionals featured in RV Pro magazine, the July 2015 issue. The article appears on page 38 and is title, "The Good Egg." It talks about how I do the Eggie thing and help manage Guaranty's $1,000,000 ad budget.

I didn't know that I was going to be featured in the magazine. When the company photographer asked to nab my photo, I shot him a live long and prosper. He shot another photo while he was there, which is the photo they used in the publication.

Shooting Hoops with Jordan Kent

by Jamie Bennett

When you're an eggman, you have friends in high places. Jordan Kent dropped by today to shoot some hoops.

Guaranty ponied up $1,500 (prize money) for the winner of a one on one basketball game. If Jordan won, the kids camp would finally get their new basketballs... But if I won, well there was no way I was going to win.

Pear Blossom Parade

by Jamie Bennett

This past weekend I woke up at 5 am and headed down to Medford, Ore. for the 2015 Pear Blossom Festival. We currently have a show going on at the Jackson County Fairgrounds, where Guaranty wound up selling it's giveaway trailer. I had to arrive in Medford early enough to install fresh decals on the new promotional trailer, so that it could be in the parade. I love driving around Oregon, especially before the sun comes up. The drive between Springfield and Medford is especially gorgeous. I was rocking out to Coachella the whole way down via satellite radio (what a time to be alive).

It was wet and wild. I had to keep drying the surface of the give away trailer, while installing decals. It was a time crunch, but I made it.

Presenting Technology & Stuff

by Jamie Bennett

So at the end of this year's World Series between the Royals and  Giants a Chevy representative got a ton of flack for his presentation of the Most Valuable Player. A very surreal moment in baseball. Here is a link if you missed it. Just as an FYI, there are better recordings of this but I didn't bother finding one.

Anyways at work we are releasing a new Chevy service app. and we decided to spoof this presentation. We were thinking, "hey technology and stuff." Read more to see our spoof or click here.

Keep Road Trippin'

by Jamie Bennett

Manifestival destiny brought country music to the furthest western point of these continental United States. Cape Blanco (Blank-O) was held along the southwestern Oregon coast and is a welcome addition to an already successful Bi-mart summer concert series. I know because I was there and have been since the beginning. I saw the whole thing blossom behind quantum black eyes and a frozen, albeit reassuring half moon smile.

My favorite aspect of any music festival is the RVs. Each person’s setup is beautiful, unique and a status symbol. Our brakes went out just before Cape Blanco and my personal Airstream was thrashed. I just put some new solar panels on the 30 foot Land Yacht and was anticipating an easy drive to Junction City when the brakes choose to do nothing about preventing me sailing around the exit ramps railing. My conversion van came out without a scratch but the trailer was totaled. Probably a good thing this happened before the festival weekend but a downer nevertheless. My family status was back to just above the ground sleepers in our big ass loaner rig.

The Eggman's on the Move

by Jamie Bennett

So in 2014 I have already had some fairly high profile Eggie appearances. The image to the left is a radio remote in Junction City but I have also made appearance so far at the Pear Blossom Parade and McMinnville's UFO Festival. I will hopefully be making an appearance at the Cape Blanco Country Music Festival and you know you'll find me at Willamette Country Music Festival.

Ground Zero – Merry Christmas!

by Jamie Bennett

So this is the first actual day of posting my blog. So many things have happened to me over the years and I am sad to say that I haven’t preserved all the experiences I should have. There have been numerous openings and marketing experiences that are forever filed in my memory bank. Now I have a place to archive these experiences. I was inspired to finally sit down and blog all these experiences after the last several years of repeat events. It is now my responsibility to try and go as far back as possible to preserve some of my guerilla marketing experiences before they are lost forever.

Light Parades

by Jamie Bennett

This year I did the Junction City (12/07/12) and Harrisburg (12/08/12) light shows as Eggie. I gave out some SWAG and was mobbed. People were shacking me. I got separated from the RV but it was a lot of fun. I even got a really nice email from a customer saying that her son wouldn’t take our glasses off.

Eggie Goes to College GameDay

by Jamie Bennett

gamedayheader

When I go out and make these Eggie appearances my primary responsibility is to engage the crowd around me and to try. I try to keep my energy levels high and our primary goal is to have some positive interactions with the people we encounter. GameDay (11/17/12) was packed. There was no way to score a picture with the Duck as he crowd surfed, road a Harley and that was just fine with me. Being that this was a University of Oregon related function I figured we should keep somewhat of a low profile. I also can’t cut through crowds easily in the suit. We started passing out SWAG and working the out rim of the massive crowd. The hardhat featured below was given to me at Extreme Makeover : Home Edition.

Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure

Just another day in the life of an egg... Guaranty’s Girls Night Out sponsored a team to take part in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. I went before the start of the event to mingle, pass out S.W.A.G. and to give participants a photo opportunity.

Bi-Mart Willamette Country Music Festival - Eggie

by Jamie Bennett

eggieheader2

Bi-Mart Willamette Country Music Festival in Brownsville, Ore., attracts some pretty major country music acts. Guaranty has a display and I went along to work the crowd. I passed out frisbees, glow sticks, LED glasses and koozies. Everyone was excited to see me and posed for pictures. I think someone was talking about depantsing me but it never amounted to anything.

Relay for Life

by Jamie Bennett

raceforcure

Yesterday (07/28/12) I participated in Relay for Life. This was held at Willamette High School in Eugene, Ore. and not only was it a good cause but we also tried to break the world record for the largest mascot gathering. I can only describe it as a the craziest thing that I have ever participated in. Mascots were everywhere. I personally have never seen, nor given so many high fives in my life.
