Country Crossings Music Festival

I spent August 25 - 30th in Medford at the Country Crossings Music Festival (CXFest). It was super fun, really hot and a lot of hard work. I was doing so much dancing and walking that my shoes melted.

Guaranty arrived on the 25th to set out all of our signage. We setup our marketing materials and fine tuned the displays. I wasn't staying onsite at this festival. I was staying at a local hotel. I go to spend the bulk of my time off (what little there was) at a pool.

There is always a lot that goes into these festivals. I know I have written about this before, so click on the "Country Music" label above if you want to learn more. To the right is a picture of me wading through the crowd by the main stage.

Read more to get a general recap of what was done and I will post links to festival photos.

Pear Blossom

by Jamie Bennett

Every year I head down to the Pear Blossom festival in Medford, Ore. This year was no different, but it was easily our best showing. I went down Friday afternoon and installed some incredible decals along a Roadtrek Versatile. This Roadtrek pulled Eggie dancing in a SylvanSport Go. I followed Mr. Peanut in his peanut mobile, and as such everyone already had their cameras out... ready!!!

Beergarden

by Jamie Bennett

Recently I got the opportunity to install some decals on the front of the Beergarden in Eugene, Ore. We got up early, did the damn thing and it looked great. These decals are to promote the Beergarden's Bacon, Bluegrass and Boneyard event. I plan to attend this event for my birthday, and maybe take photos. I am definitely going to eat a bunch of bacon.

Read on to see the full installed graphic, and to learn about future projects.

Kickoff to Bad Sport Puns

by Jamie Bennett

Photo both season is underway. This means I get to spend a bunch of time photographing manikins. This year we are adding the University of Oregon to our regiment. We are still doing Oregon State University, and this year our pictures will appear on the Jumbotron at both stadiums. We get mobbed at Autzen Stadium. The traffic of people is heavy the entire time. I live close to Autzen, so I can skateboard in and out during game days, and this makes the whole thing so much easier on weekends..
Here is a link to the photos we took at the first game. People come and take photos with the manikins, we post the picture and we print them a copy.

Read on and you'll see some of Eggie's extended family.

Country Music Video Extravaganza

by Jamie Bennett

I am tired, so this will be short. I included my favorite videos from this weekend for filler. To the right is a number of sandwich boards I brought to the festival. The neon decal ones were in the Rising Star area, and the four color signs were at the display. I spent today cleaning our marketing trailer, and sorting the collateral materials. It was a great weekend. It was especially awesome to see people enjoying the hats, other promotional items, and it was great to get to know my colleagues better. I am exhausted, so there you have it.

Read on and you'll see video that Cappelli Miles made for the jumbotron (Eggie included), video of me dancing (in real life) and the most Amaerican clip of all time.

And I Still Went to Cape Blanco!

by Jamie Bennett

I broke my arm before the big show. After months of preparation, I fell and received a hairline fracture on the radial horn in my left arm, but I still went to the Cape Blanco Country Music Festival. We were a hit as usual, didn't miss a beat. Here is a photo of me wearing my heavy egg suit, featured on the festival's Facebook page. It was great. Eggie had more name recognition then ever. I didn't have a cast. I didn't need one, which stinks because I broke my arm. I deserved a sweet cast to paint on! I have never broken anything in my life to warrant a cast, and I feel a little sad that I missed out this time.

Read on and I'll give you some highlights from this weekend.

Updating Our Monuments!!!

by Jamie Bennett

So I spoke too soon with my last post title. I can't remember whether or not I thought I was being funny, but the worst was not over. I will talk more about that in the full post, but for now let's look at these beautiful LED signs below.

I'm hopefully going to be able to tap into these from my office. We will have three sets of these facing north and south along Highway 99. We are even going to project public notices for the city from time to time. It should be awesome.

If you read on there will also be a video of the new channel letters for our momunents.

How to Install Decals Like a Pro

by Jamie Bennett

Pretty sure I have covered this before, but it's always worth a refresh. When you choose to read more, I will include a time lapse video so you can watch me work.

First of all prep the surface that you wish to apply the decal to. Make sure there is no dirt, and you can mix 5-10% dish soap with water to create a decent surface spray. This will allow you to slide your decal a little. The solution can help you with positioning, and bubble eradication.

I have applied decals in dust bowls, and in the freezing rain. It is best to be in a climate controlled situation, but sometimes you just gotta make it work. I find that direct sunlight and hot weather is the hardest working condition, especially for large decals. The surface area can heat the vinyl and turn it into an almost fluid state. The rain isn't so bad, as long as you can sop up the water fast enough, bring a towel.

Pear Blossom Parade

by Jamie Bennett

This past weekend I woke up at 5 am and headed down to Medford, Ore. for the 2015 Pear Blossom Festival. We currently have a show going on at the Jackson County Fairgrounds, where Guaranty wound up selling it's giveaway trailer. I had to arrive in Medford early enough to install fresh decals on the new promotional trailer, so that it could be in the parade. I love driving around Oregon, especially before the sun comes up. The drive between Springfield and Medford is especially gorgeous. I was rocking out to Coachella the whole way down via satellite radio (what a time to be alive).

It was wet and wild. I had to keep drying the surface of the give away trailer, while installing decals. It was a time crunch, but I made it.

Mutton Busting

by Jamie Bennett

One of the great things about being a graphic designer is getting to put images onto things that you never considered as canvas. Here I am standing next to some live stock shoots that were going to the rodeo in Albany, Ore. One of our palooza's was taking place next to the rodeo and so we sponsored the mutton busting. I installed decals on the shoots that the sheep shoot out of.

Mutton busting is essentially plopping kids onto sheep and turning them loose. Kind of a family friendly version of what usually happens at the rodeo. It was a lot of fun.

Another great thing about being a designer is that often I am called to broaden my horizon. I am familiar with rodeos, but I must say that I am not a fan. I feel bad for the animals, particularly the bulls and horses. Torturing animals was probably more fun before the advent of cable television.

That being said... I had to get my daughter on a sheep. I remember seeing mutton busing as a kid and thinking, "I could do better." Llew was super pumped. I think that the people at the rodeo thought I was foolish to put my daughter on the sheep. That was at least, the impression I got. There was a Dora the Explorer helmet so she couldn't have been the first. Llew is brave and can take a spill better than most boys. I wasn't worried.

CLICK "READ MORE" TO VIEW LLEW RIDING THE SHEEP... The guy pulled her early which I thought was a little unnecessary but perhaps, it's better to leave some decisions to the professionals. Llew was mostly disappointed that her socks got dirty during the process.

PAC 12 or Bust!

by Jamie Bennett

So I have two plotters that I run almost continuously. One at work and one at home. Work purchased me one because they saw a benefit to being able to create large decals on short notice. I can't say I blame them and it was I that suggested it. Anyways, here is a coach that I decorated with all manner of Duck symbols. I purchased about 20 yards of yellow and green vinyl and just went to town. To the right is a photo of myself on a scaffold behind the rig. I am adhering a helmet. Expand the rest of this post for additional photos.

Keep Road Trippin'

by Jamie Bennett

Manifestival destiny brought country music to the furthest western point of these continental United States. Cape Blanco (Blank-O) was held along the southwestern Oregon coast and is a welcome addition to an already successful Bi-mart summer concert series. I know because I was there and have been since the beginning. I saw the whole thing blossom behind quantum black eyes and a frozen, albeit reassuring half moon smile.

My favorite aspect of any music festival is the RVs. Each person’s setup is beautiful, unique and a status symbol. Our brakes went out just before Cape Blanco and my personal Airstream was thrashed. I just put some new solar panels on the 30 foot Land Yacht and was anticipating an easy drive to Junction City when the brakes choose to do nothing about preventing me sailing around the exit ramps railing. My conversion van came out without a scratch but the trailer was totaled. Probably a good thing this happened before the festival weekend but a downer nevertheless. My family status was back to just above the ground sleepers in our big ass loaner rig.

The Eggman's on the Move

by Jamie Bennett

So in 2014 I have already had some fairly high profile Eggie appearances. The image to the left is a radio remote in Junction City but I have also made appearance so far at the Pear Blossom Parade and McMinnville's UFO Festival. I will hopefully be making an appearance at the Cape Blanco Country Music Festival and you know you'll find me at Willamette Country Music Festival.

BMW Wrap Winner

by Jamie Bennett
bmw

So Anne Cunningham and Jamie Bennett won third prize in a Portland wrap design competition (2013). We can only talk about it now. Jamie was told about the competition and hatched a scheme to get some money / had a good idea. Anne Cunningham shot the photos with a microscopic lens and in all honesty we should probably post those images because they were great.

Bi-Mart Willamette Country Music Festival - New Signs

by Jamie Bennett

eggieheader8

Bi-Mart Willamette Country Music Festival in Brownsville, Ore., is an event that defines Guaranty’s customer base. I got some new mesh signs and frames that I was privileged enough to put together in 106F degree temperature. They are incredible and a great addition to the arsenal.
